Materials Research Furnaces is a high temperature furnace manufacturer in Allenstown NH providing precision thermal processing equipment worldwide for R&D and production facilities in sectors such as Electronics, Medical, Avionics, Government Labs, Nuclear and more.
Position Overview:
MRF is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, self-starter, team player that strives for top quality workmanship. We are looking for an initiative-taker that will fit into our culture of a small, high performing, multi-disciplined engineering team. Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual.
The Mechanical Designer works on all product stages from research and development to design, manufacture, and testing of the equipment. The goal is to design and fabricate mechanical components of innovation and excellence.
Essential Job Functions:
• Develop quality detailed drawings of components/part for top level assemblies.
• Revise drawings from redline modifications and or corrections.
• Design systems and components that meet needs and requirements.
• Produce outline designs.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, vacuum, and gas systems a plus.
• Identify, formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems.
• Evaluate final product’s overall performance, reliability, and safety.
• Alter and modify design to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions.
• Estimate scope of project: Content, cost & schedule.
Knowledge/Education/Certification Requirements:
• Associates of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Design Technology, or Advanced Manufacturing is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
• Minimum of one to two years of experience in an industrial environment.
• Experience in 2D and 3D Auto CAD, Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
• Experience with tools for stress/strain, heat transfer (radiation, conduction, convection) a plus.
• Training in general safety and quality system awareness.

• The ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors is vital to performing daily duties. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and will occasionally be required to walk through and perform duties on the production floor.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working mainly in an office environment but will be required to interact with staff on the production floor on a regular basis. While on the production floor, the employee is regularly exposed to environmental vibrations. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and the noise level on the production floor can be very loud.
